TEXTILES

gold dress with black lace overlay
Silk & net jacket 1900s

Our Textile department has a large range of clothing - men, women and children from the late 1700s to the 1960s. Fine needlework, hats, and accessories are also in our textile department. Skilled and experienced conservators make sure that these treasures are kept in optimum conditions.

There are ever changing displays of clothing scattered throughout the museum.

The textile department is home to hundreds of articles of clothing and wonderful intricate pieces of embroidery from the days when Ladies filled their days with petit pointe and skilled needlewomen created wonderful laces, and trims to adorn beautiful dresses and gowns. As well as the fine gowns there are the "everyday" items of clothing which are so different from the clothing worn today.

As well as having items from the textile collection on display for all visitors to enjoy the Museum is proud to show off its collection of wonderful textiles to any group - large or small - who is interested. If you and a group of friends, or your special interest group are interested in visiting the textile department and having a hosted tour please contact the Manager/Curator at least 2 weeks before you and your group would like to visit. Our Contact Us page has all our contact details. We will be delighted to hear from you.
